| Administrative History | Wirksworth Urban District Council, as the local authority with responsibility for public footpaths, took legal action against George Wimpey and Company Limited, which operated the Coal Hills Quarry in Wirksworth. The UDC's claim was that Wimpey had unlawfully destroyed 30 yards of public footpath by blasting with explosives on or about 27 Oct 1965. In 1967, the UDC resolved to proceed with a legal case against Wimpey, with Derbyshire County Council acting for the UDC. The case was resolved when Wimpey offered to pay for restoration of the footpaths. |
