Administrative History | John Bower (1827-1884) was born in Peak Forest, son of Ralph (d. 1869) and Hannah Bower of Laneside. By 1871, John was married to Annie and was living at the Yorkshire Bridge Inn, with two servants. John was from a farming family, at the time of the 1861 census, his father was farming 350 acres from Laneside and John's brother Nathaniel was farming 424 acres from the neighbouring farm of Slack House. In 1851, John's brother William was farming 210 acres from Dale House, also in Peak Forest. John is living at Laneside by the time of the 1881 census. John Bower died in 1884 and was buried at Peak Forest on 3 August, his abode being given as Laneside. |
