Title
Petition
Date
[mid 16th cent]
Description
of John Eyre, Robert Bradbury, John Urgars the younger and John Tyme, the king's tenants of Castleton to the Earl of Shrewsbury, complaining that Thomas Fytzharbert, son of Sir Antony Fytzharbert, has caused the petitioners to be issued with writs to appear at Westminster at Michaelmas on a charge of trespass, for driving his sheep off his land. Petitioners argue against the charge and ask the Earl to discharge their appearance before the court. [Sir Anthony Fitzherbert (c1470-1538) was a judge and owner of large estates in Derbyshire. His son Thomas was a parliamentarian who died in 1591]
