Showing profile of a young woman set in oval; Messalina was the wife of the Roman Emperor Claudius, who had her killed for plotting against him and alleged adultery, in 48 AD; taken from "A select Collection of Drawings from curious antique Gems, most of them in the possession of the Nobility and Gentry of this Kingdom, etched after the manner of Rembrandt," by Thomas Worlidge. [Lord Montague is possibly George Montagu Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax.]
