| Administrative History | Henry Sellwood (1792-1867) was the brother-in-law of Sir John Franklin, having married his sister Sarah Franklin, at Mavis Enderby, Lincolnshire, in 1812. He was a lawyer by profession, who acted as a legal representative and trustee for Sir John Franklin, eventually becoming the sole executor of his will. He also took the place of Franklin, when he 'gave away' Eleanor Franklin in her marriage ceremony to John Philip Gell on 7 June 1849.
The Sellwoods had 3 daughters: Emily (1813-1896), who went on to marry the famous poet Alfred Tennyson, later Lord Tennyson, going on to be his manager in effect: Anne (1814-1894), who married Charles Richard Weld: and Louisa (1816-1879), who married Reverend Charles Tennyson Turner. |
