The earliest reference to the Derwent Foundry on Exeter Place is in Freebody's 1852 Directory of Derby. In 1899 and 1908 (Kelly's Trade Directory) Derwent Foundry Co. Ltd is described as an ironfounders, stove, range and radiator manufacturers of Exeter Place and Derwent Street, Derby. The managing director in1899 is given as E. W. Jobson. In the 1925 directory Lodge Lane is also added. The 1928 directory only records Exeter Place for the foundry with Lodge Lane as lawn mower manufacturer (warehouse). By the time of the 1932 directory, they are known as Qualcast Ltd, lawnmower manufacturers, Victory Road, Derby (the same entry appears in 1936 and 1941) |
