Description | Only the first third of the volume is devoted to musical and theatrical performances. These include advertisements, clippings and photographs relating to a production of Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern's "Show Boat", by the Alan Turner Opera Company at the Hippodrome in Derby, Mar 1951. Many of the photographs show the cast in 19th-century American costume, with some performers wearing black make-up to represent African Americans.
The remaining two-thirds of the volume contains photographs and clippings relating to the subject of Christianity in an industrial setting, including extensive photographs of the annual Factory Feast, involving a mass being said in a the Spa Lane Mills factory, from 1951 onwards. |
