| Administrative History | This collection of documents relates to the sale of the colour works in Via Gellia, Bonsall in 1826.
The colour works on the Via Gellia, Bonsall, was set up in around 1815 by William Duesbury, after the sale of the Derby China Factory which had been established in 1756 by his grandfather William Duesbury (1725-1786). The colour works went bankrupt in 1826, and all the manufacturing and personal property of Duesbury and his partner William Chawner was sold in October and November of that year.
These items derive from the office of the Sheriff of Derbyshire, which was responsible for the sale of the properties and for payments to the firm's creditors. They include inventories of the business and domestic premises of both partners, financial papers relating to the sale and sale catalogues endorsed with the names of purchasers. |
