Highfield Primary School, Long Eaton
Administrative History
Highfield Primary School was an infant and junior school in Long Eaton.
The original mixed school was initially founded as the "Wesleyan Temporary School", with Edith Button as its head teacher, in March 1907. The school became a girls' school from January 1921 (with the boys transferred to Derby Road Boy's School). During the next few decades the school name changed to Wellington Street Primary and Girls School, and later to Wellington Street Junior School.
An adjacent school was established in March 1911 eventually named the Wellington Street Council Infant School. Highfield Infants School was established in circa 1957.
These separate primary and junior schools were amalgamated as the Highfield Primary School in 1984.
The school closed in 2008 as part of the local reorganisation of primary school education in Long Eaton.
