Archive CreatorBramwell Memorial Institute, Taddington
Administrative HistoryThe village institute at Taddington was instigated in 1907 by Mr. Samuel Bramwell of Taddington Hall. He had provided a hall converted from an agricultural building opposite his house and 'Taddington Social Club', initially for men only, was formed. In 1928, Mrs. Bramwell gave the club property to the newly constituted 'Bramwell Memorial Parish Institute' under nine trustees. By 1955, the trustees met infrequently and there were proposals to terminate the Institute. However, Taddington Silver Band decided to base themselves there and a new committee was formed. The minute book from 1965 to 1975 therefore covers the period when the Institute was run by the band. A further committee was formed after 1975 and still exists.
