Administrative History | The Ripley and District Development Association was formed in 1961. At the first meeting on 12 Oct 1961, it was proposed that the main function of the Association would be primarily to provide Public Swimming Baths in the Ripley Urban District, and to otherwise generally assist sport, social and cultural activities in the area.
Councillor Mr C Burnett was elected as the Association's first chairman.
Six sub-committees were formed: Tote and Lotteries Committee; Entertainment Committee; Special Purposes Committee; Publicity Committee; Finance and Investment Committee; and Ladies Committee.
The main function of the Association became the fundraising football lottery, which is reflected in the records.
The swimming pool was opened in the 1970s, and the Association wound down its activities, ceasing in 1989. |
Custodial History | These records were donated to Derbyshire Record Office in May 2005. |
