| Administrative History | Local Boards of Health were set up in 1848 to administer services which related to public health, such as improved sewerage and water supply, street cleaning, maintenance of highways and supervision of building regulations. Under the Public Health Act 1872, Local Boards of Health were designated Urban Sanitary Authorities and under the Local Government Act 1894 they became Urban District Councils. They were abolished in 1974 as part of local government reorganisation. Bakewell Urban District became part of the new Derbyshire Dales District Council. |
| Custodial History | The majority of these records were deposited in October 1999 (2 deposits), November 1999, September 2000 (2 deposits), February 2001 and December 2025 by Bakewell Town Council, as successor authority to Bakewell Urban District Council.
