Title
Statutory Declaration of John Staley of Elton, labourer
re the previous occupant (i.e. Thomas Knowles) of a messuage and homestead in the lower end of Elton, also two pieces of land called the Leys, and the Near Close, now in the occupation of Cornelius Smith.
The schedule to the declaration also states that Mr. Smith was at this time, in occupation of two fields called Near Close and the Upper Close, formerly called Locco Close, both in Elton. Two fields on Elton Common, were now occupied by George Knowles. They were bounded on the north by the land of Mrs. Brittlebank, and on the south by the Nottingham and Newhaven Turnpike Road. George Knowles also occupied one field on Brassington Common, and another on Elton Common. Both were south of the Nottingham and Newhaven Turnpike Road, and bounded on the east by land of Mrs. Brittlebank
