| Administrative History | The Stancliffe Estates Company Limited was registered on 13 April 1897 for the purpose of taking over the estates, quarries, nurseries and water works, which Sir Joseph Whitworth had acquired at Stancliffe in 1854. The Stancliffe Quarries had formerly been worked by Sir Joseph Whitworth under the style 'The Darley Dale Stone Company'. The new Company also incorporated those quarries owned by Mr Thomas Cooper Drabble at Bentley Brook, Farley, Matlock and Cromford. |
