Aglite (Midlands) Ltd was formed in 1956 to produce lightweight aggregates and building blocks under licence from Aglite (GB) Ltd. The Butterley Company acquired 100%
interest in the firm in 1959. It operated a sister plant at Derby, producing lightweight aggregate and an adjacent plant manufacturing lightweight building blocks. The name was changed to Butterley Aglite Ltd in 1978.
