Administrative History
Derby Corporation was styled in title deeds and other legal documents as the Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses of the Borough of Derby, which remained the case after the passing of the Municipal Corporations Act.
Arrangement
They have been arranged in series according to the parish or township in which the properties are found. The first five series are for the ancient parishes of Derby, and the following series are arranged alphabetically by parish or township, which were either a discreet township within the Borough boundaries such as Little Chester or Litchurch or were taken into the Borough as its boundaries were extended as Derby grew. The one exception is parish of Etwall, which is several miles away from Derby, but the Corporation bought properties there for the purpose of building an airport at Burnaston.
