Administrative History
Local Boards of Health were first set up in 1848 to administer services which related to public health in populated areas not covered by Borough Councils. South Darley Local Board dated from 1863. Under the Public Health Act 1872, Local Boards of Health were designated Urban Sanitary Authorities and in 1894, these authorities became Urban District Councils under the Local Government Act of that year. By the Derbyshire Review Order of 1934, South Darley UDC was abolished and the parish area became a ward of Matlock Urban District Council.
