TitleH J Longsdon at Seacroft, Leeds, to Uncle William Longsdon
Date21 Apr 1855
DescriptionWould have written sooner to tell him of little son but on Easter Tuesday writer saw Emma who said she was writing to him. Went to Leeds for a day by a cheap trip and his friend there was good enough to drive him over to Longstone where they begged their dinner off Emma and set off back almost immediately afterwards, as obliged to come here that night.
Glad to see Emma again - when can she come to see them - very sorry she could not be godmother to Dora but declined because she could not come. Hopes to see him in Summer as Mr James has asked them to go there and hopes he will have returned safely to own home. Mr Hodson now talks of returning to Longstone but should think whether does or not. Very little prospect of writer coming. Hopes to have visit from William Longsdon on his return. Writer's aunts seem to settle down here very comfortably and are fond of their niece.
Glad to hear such good feeling in America towards mother country. Is there much prospect of aid from Canada in case of need? For Russian war assuming a very serious aspect that they are daily hoping for news of taking of Sebastopol. Please give writer's love to Charles when he sees him as writer supposes he will before he leaves.
