Title	14 December 1811 London. John Longsdon to father. Twist has got higher but cotton met with a check; thinks will find it difficult to get 16d. Cannot easily go above as large importations must flow in when advance known in States. Do not expect to do much good if they must pay 16d and 2/4 for twist. No-one will buy anything until January is well in therefore they must be quiet. Mr Finch pays attention to qualities - by far most important thing. 9/8 shirtings are a favourite and will go off well. Writer has not interfered with Thomas Ward's acceptance for £30 - of course it reverts back. They are not much hurt in his fall. Lesson to John (?) not to do business with anyone who is not in strict sense a "man of business". Asks how are cattle. Smithfield reports considerable advance in price of beef this week. Meant to see Duke of Bedford's show of cattle today but could not get out. May do so on Monday. Will advise on sales next week.
