Title
[Earl] Sterndale rate book labelled “Stearndale Field Rate”
Date
[early 19th cent]
Description
Comprising a series of entries consisting of 2 names (occupier and owner) followed by field names or other description of property with numbers, acreages and sums of money - two sums for each property.
On page 66 are notes in a different hand of total acreage, value of land, houses, lot and cope [payments relating to lead right] and railways.
Following page 66 is a section headed ‘Collected Rate and Index’, consisting of a list of occupiers and proprietors with columns for page numbers (referring to the main section of the volume) “Items”, (often blank, or recording sums of money) and rate.
At the end of the book is an account of the measurement of the railroad in Hartington Middle Quarter, giving names of persons, acreages and rates but few references to properties, and on the last page the quantity of freehold land in Under Hill farm [in Earl Sterndale] giving field names and acreages.
The book is not dated, but apparently early 19th cent
