Administrative History
The Harpur family were established in Warwickshire in the 11th century and acquired land in Staffordshire and elsewhere in the 15th century. In 1621 Sir Henry Harpur purchased the Calke estate from the Bainbrigges of Lockington and after this Calke Abbey became the family's main seat.
Custodial History
These items were given to the Record Office by a private individual in December 1987.
