Archive CreatorTolson and Gibb of Calver Mills, cotton spinners and doublers
Administrative HistoryTolson and Gibb, cotton spinners and doublers, took over management of the Calver Mills from Greg and Co in 1864. The first small mill had been built at Calver c1778. A large mill, built c1785, was burnt down in 1802 and replaced c1803-1804. Members of the families of Gardom, Pares and Heygate ran the mills until their takeover by Greg and Co in 1846. Under Tolson and Gibb the mills suffered a decline, and when Mr Gibb died in 1899 he was destitute.
Custodial HistoryThe account books were deposited in the Derbyshire Record Office in October 1982.
