Administrative History | Henry Harpur (c1579/1585-c1638), 1st Baronet, was a younger son of John and Isabella Harpur. He was married at Swarkestone in 1609 to Barbara, daughter of Anthony Faunt of Foston and widow of Sir Henry Beaumont, by whom he had three sons and six daughters. He purchased estates at Calke and elsewhere in 1622 and was created baronet in 1626. Probate of Henry Harpur's will was granted in 1639 by the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Barbara Harpur died in 1649 and is commemorated by a memorial tablet in All Saints Church, Derby, (now Derby Cathedral). Probate of her will was granted in 1650 by the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Both wills may be seen at the National Archives. |
