Administrative HistoryGreat Longstone, originally a chapelry in the parish of Bakewell, is located 3 miles north west of Bakewell, and 12 miles west of Chesterfield. It includes the townships of Holme, Little Longstone, and a portion of Wardlow. The vicarial tithes of Great and Little Longstone were commuted for land under an Enclosure Act in 1810.

The church is an ancient structure, dedicated to St. Giles. It contains monuments of the Eyre family, earls of Newburgh. There was a school, with an endowment of £15. The other charities produced about £30 per annum.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited with Derbyshire Record Office by or on behalf of the parish in February 1980 (accessioned February 1995), May 1981, June 1981, March 1984, March 2005, April 2005, January 2008, August 2012 and September 2014.
