Administrative HistoryThe Manor of Matlock belonged to the Duchy of Lancaster during much of the medieval period. From 1399 the Duchy was a property of the Crown. In 1628, Charles I sold the Manor to the City of London in part payment of his father's debts to the City. In the following year, it was purchased from the City by trustees for the copyholders of the Manor. These records were deposited in the Record Office in October 1980 and October 1984.
