Pressley was noted as retired 1 February 1958 after his final occupation of Gate Cleaner and his grounds of appeal included: 'the reason of my retirement was because of being unable to attend my work regularly even in the nature of light duties'. His stated occupation in 1949 was colliery repairer and this was the benchmark used to assess loss of earnings.
