Title
Local Appeal Tribunal case file for Harold Hurt, aged 41, Coal miner at [colliery not stated]
Date
1958
Description
Date of birth:
Marital status: Married
Address: 50 North Street, Holmgate, Clay Cross
Type of benefit claimed: Sickness benefit
Type of injury: Lumbar strain
Further information: The claim was late. The Insurance officer submission quoted a Commissioner's decision that 'a claimant who deliberately refrains from claiming sickness benefit because he does not expect to be ill for long, does not show good casue '. Hurt did not attend and relied on his grounds of appeal: 'As you will see from my records I have only gone on N.I. with my old injury to back for the last two or three years. Which [...] occurs more often than I go on the club. Very often I have found that 2 or 3 days complete rest will enable me to carry on work'.
