Further information: According to the Summary of facts on the Appeal referral, the claimant had an accident at work on 4 December 1957 when he slipped and tubs ran over his left arm. His usual occupation was as a runner-on, running empty tubs onto the cage and knocking full tubs out the other side. He resumed work after the accident as a tub manipulator watching empty tubs round the creeper and summoning help if any became derailed. He claimed Special Hardship Allowance on the basis that no overtime was available on his present job, which would be on his previous. His last occupation on the Appeal referral is stated as 'Bank Hand.' In the claimant's grounds of appeal dated 28 June 1958 it is stated that 'I was earning £12 11s 4d and now I can only earn £8 10s 0d in my present employment.' The tribunal hearing of 31 July 1958 was adjourned for wages information, and on 9 September 1958 the appeal was allowed. There is further information relating to job grades and payments.
