He had bilateral arthroplasty performed in 1959. For the Special Hardship Allowance appeal, a consultant orthopaedic opinion was obtained; the report started that the pre-existing arthritis worsened after the accident as 'the result of the natural progress of the disease' and appended an extract from a medical text book. |
