Administrative History | The circuit was formed by the amalgamation of the Bakewell and Bradwell Wesleyan Methodist Circuits in 1905. In 1944 it in turn amalgamated with the Bakewell (ex-Primitive) Methodist Circuit to form the Peak Methodist Circuit.
In 1905 the circuit comprised chapels at Hathersage, Bradwell, Castleton, Edale, Hope, Woodlands, Ashopton, Bamford, Thornhill, Tideswell, Hucklow, Litton, Sparrowpit, Peak Forest, Eyam, Bakewell, Baslow, Beeley, Pilsley, Elton, Youlgreave, Taddington, Longstone and Ashford. By 1944 the chapel at Ashopton had been closed for the building of Ladybower Reservoir and there was another chapel for the circuit at Grindleford. Services were also held at Cliff College and at various times for Nether Booth, Abney and Litton Mill. |
