Parish of Snelston St Peter
Administrative History
Snelston was at least nominally a chapelry of Norbury until 1871, when it became a separate parish. The rector of Norbury was patron of the benefice, but in effect it had been independent, with its own parish officers and separate registers.
Custodial History
These documents were deposited with Derbyshire Record Office at various dates between November 1982 and June 2005.
Organisation Sub-Type
Church of England Parishes
Physical Description
The parish records were badly damaged by floodwater at Snelston Hall in July 1972. A number of documents were completely destroyed, and the earlier registers reduced to fragments. Many have been repaired, but some are still unfit for production.
