Administrative HistoryThe British Speleological Association (BSA) was founded by Eli Simpson and others in 1935. In 1973, it merged with the Cave Research Group of Great Britain to form the British Cave Research Association (BCRA).
Custodial HistoryAll or at least part of the collection had originally been in the custody of Robert How Ashton Losehill Hall, Castleton. After the hall was sold (perhaps 1924, as per sale catalogues under reference D486 and D2450/ES/1), the records were found and ultimately came into the custody of Eli Simpson (1884-1962), founding member of the British Speleological Association. The records were deposited by the Association in a number of consignments beginning in 1972 by the British Speleological Association (BSA). A further item (D1154/G/L/29) was accessioned in April 2019, having been brought to the record office approximately 20 years previously. According to the transferror it had been separated from the rest of the collection (a letter with the item suggests this had happened by Aug 1969).
