Title
Henry Bourne at East Haddon to his son Immanuel Bourne at his house in Smith Field, near Pye Corner (London)
Date
1645
Description
I give prayers for you and for our Sion now so maligned by intestine adversaries with other foreign emissaries of Antichrist and his adherents - I doubt not that Jesus, when he has purified us as gold, will show us power, if not to their conversion, at least to their confusion - Lidia has sent you a 20lb pot of butter and I have sent a fat tithe pig with a pin through its tongue - concerning your coming to Mysterton (Misterton, Lincs), I do not know what to do for the best as we are likely to be visited by Lord Grey with an army - I have heard that Grey has sent to Holdenby (Northants) to a purpose which will be to our great molestation - I must give up the Minister I hired for want of money to pay him - of the 26 people who should pay me rent, 16 pay nothing - Mr Chester has paid nothing since last December
PS - I have heard from Mr Ireton that Lord Grey has himself been to Holdenby but the nature of his commission is not known
