Brett; Dorothy Eugenie (1883-1977); British painter, associated with the Bloomsbury Group. Friend of D H Lawrence; at his invitation moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1924, remaining there for the rest of her life, becoming an American citizen in 1938.
Lawrence; David Herbert (1885-1930); Author, born Eastwood, Notts; lived for some time in Middleton-by-Wirksworth. Many Derbyshire places feature in his work.
