| Administrative History | The Chesterfield and District Trades Union Council was established on 9 June 1893. Following the General Strike in 1926 it went into a decline but was revitalised in 1937. In the 1930s and 1940s it extended its boundaries to include Clay Cross and Staveley Trades Councils.
One of the aims of the organisation (as stated in the May Day Gala Programme 1988) is to "promote the interests of all its affiliated organisations and to secure united action on all questions affecting or likely to affect those interests and to take part in national and international efforts to promote the welfare of the workers". |
| Custodial History | These records were deposited with Derbyshire Record Office by the organisation in July 1996, April 1997, June 1997 and March 2008. Further items, including minutes and programmes, were transferred from Chesterfield Local Studies Library in September 1996. Some records were also re-accessioned from D6919 in June 2008. |
