Biography | Jack was an enslaved African on the Turners Hall sugar plantation in Barbados. He first appears in the 1771 list where he was recorded as being the driver [overseer] of the second gang. The second gang laboured in the fields, but was not worked as hard as the great gang. It would have been made up of younger teenagers, pregnant women, and people who were no longer able to work in the great gang, perhaps aged from around 28 to 50. |
