Biography	Phillis was an enslaved African on the Turners Hall sugar plantation in Barbados. She first appears in the records on 31 December 1759 and is described as 'old'. In 1771 she was recorded as working in the meat gang, although it's possible that that is a different Phillis, and that the Phillis listed in 1759 died between 1760 and 1770. The meat gang weeded the fields and cared for the animals, and was made up of the very young and very old.
