Archive CreatorHanson, saddlers and leather working business, of Chesterfield
Administrative HistoryThe business began in the mid-19th century as W Bennett and Son, situated at 49 Beetwell Street. Fred Hanson bought the business from the Bennett family in 1924. He moved to 19 Cavendish Street when the old premises were demolished in 1939. Fred died in the early 1950s and his daughter Phyllis, a talented amateur artist, took over. The shop was emptied in 1965 and the premises sold for £12,600. For some time after that Phyllis worked from home (24 Albion Street, Chesterfield).
Custodial HistoryThese items were donated to Chesterfield Museum following the death of Phyllis Hanson, and were transferred to Derbyshire Record Office in July 2011.
