TitleEyam Church School group 2
Date[undated - c.1890]
Descriptionincludes Mr Owen, the Schoolmaster and Sarah Elliott, teacher.

Mr. Owen resigned in December 1921 after 42 years of service to the school. In the centenary booklet (see D6651/7/1) he is descibed as "a gentleman with a generous moustache, a stern appearance and somewhat precise in dress." The booklet goes on to surmise that in view of this together with his trouble with rheumatism "might well explain his rather scathing comments about some pupils and teacher ... and, ... his somewhat uncertain temper."

Despite some of his perceived trates, Mr. Owen was held in the highest regard. The Managers reluctantly accepted his resignation. The Rector voiced the gratitude of the Managers for Mr. Owen's "fine and noble service to the village of Eyam". The Rector added that "no words could adequately express the full extent of his faithful and loyal ministry." On Mr. Owen's last day at the school he was presented with a case of fish knives and forks and carvers on behalf of the teachers and pupils.
