Transcript or IndexSelected extracts
- 4 Sep 1891 'A day's holiday was given by the Managers on Monday, August 31st, in consequence of the Miners' Demonstration which was held in the town. On Tuesday the "Assisted Education Act" came into operation. No fee will now be charged in this Department - all the children are free. Better attendance may, therefore, be expected. This week there is a great improvement, the average having risen to 112.
- 20 Sep 1895 'A museum cupboard which was set up during the holidays has now a good number of specimens in it brought by both teachers & scholars.'
- 30 Oct 1896 'Yesterday, there was a circus procession through the town at 1 o'clock. We therefore opened school at 1.45 instead of at 1.30 & yet the attendance in the afternoon was very poor, there being only 94 present out of 121.'
