Description
The volume contains 2 sections:
1) Correspondence and other papers (with list of contents at front) relating to Hathersage enclosure.
The documents fall into 2 groups by date 1808-1813 and 1824-1831. Most of the earlier group are addressed to John Shaw, solicitor, of Wheston Hall, near Tideswell. The earlier group contains references to a disputed boundary between Hathersage and Totley, and to Dore Moors.
The later group is more diverse including eg bills for printing. Many of the letters are addressed to W H Cheek esq, solicitor, Wheston Hall
2) Correspondence and papers (1825-1828) concerning Bakewell Church Bill: churchwardens of Bakewell v chapelwardens of Taddington (with list of contents at front of book). Relates to Bakewell's claim that a rate for the repair of the church was customarily collected from its chapelries including Taddington according to the numbers of scores of cattle in each township. D3304/3/1/1 enclosure in 3/1: ?copy of letter from W H Cheek to W C Bousfield esq, London, for the information of Bousfield and counsel setting out the background to Bakewell Church case (2 May 1827). It includes a list of townships with the number of scores of cattle for which each is assessed and is followed by copies of a letter and court order concerning the case, (1827)
