DescriptionPlan of Chapel and rectory, with c1870 photograph of Wheston Hall, Tideswell and a historical note re the Wheston Hall estate (photocopy)
The historical note refers to the 'Maxwells of Meir, Staffordshire'. This appears to be a transcription error, which should read Maxfield family of Maer, Staffordshire. Sometimes the family name is spelled Macclesfield. This correction was supplied by a descendant of the Macclesfield family who has researched their history.

Elizabeth Macclesfield (c1736-c1811) in 1755 married Robert Charlton a druggist (c1735 -1787) in Wolstanton, Staffordshire and they lived at Wheston in 1785.
Agnes Macclesfield (1737-1816) married at Wolstanton in 1780 the Honourable Thomas Fitzwilliam (1755-1833) later 9th and last Viscount Fitzwilliam (1830-1833). He inherited the title by succession on the death of his two elder (surviving) brothers. Agnes inherited her sisters thirds of Wheston.
