Date1764-1868
DescriptionRelating to lead-mining, general farming and the sale of meat, meal, coal and other general products, in all of which the Wagers appear to have been engaged. No pedigree of the Wager family of Great Longstone is available, but the first member of the family to appear in these books is Thomas Wager in the 1770s, followed by William Wager, probably his son. In the middle of the 19th century another William Wager carried on the family business and there are mentions of Anthony, Edmund and Jasper Wager. Several of the volumes have been analysed in detail by Mr. Robert Thornhill of Great Longstone, whose work on them is being stencilled by the Peak District Mines Historical Society. The volumes are listed below in two series but there is a good deal of overlapping. It is not always possible to read words written on the covers, which in any case are sometimes irrelevant to the contents.
