Ecton Lead Mmine
Administrative History
Copper and lead were mined at Ecton (Staffordshire). The Dukes of Devonshire were associated with the copper mine and the lead mine was connected to the Harpur Crewe family of Calke Abbey (see D2375). Both mines were operating by the seventeenth century and largely worked out by the end of the nineteenth century. A cheese factory was also associated with the Ecton mines area.
