In 1771 and 1780 he was recorded as a cane watchman. In 1780 he was described as 'middle aged'. Darbo was born in Barbados, and was the son of Sary Jack. He would have been known as 'Great Darbo' to distinguish him from the younger Darbo on the same plantation (known as 'Little Darbo').
