Accommodated 34 boys aged 8-14 years, mainly orphans and children from "broken homes". When the home closed in 1946, the boys transferred to home in Penketh, Lancashire. The building became the Ernest Bailey Residential Nursery (1949-1972), and later Ernest Bailey Nursery and Unit for Disabled Children (1972-c1979) The premises were originally part of the corn mill buildings owned by Ernest Bailey, who had been resident at Cliffe House until he and his family moved to Mill House; in 1938 a building survey said that it lacked sufficient accommodation.
