branch of the Scout Association, providing volunteer-led activities for young people aged 6-25.

The Scout Association nationally was founded by Robert Baden Powell in 1907. The first troop in Derbyshire was started by Captain Bennett at Barrow on Trent in early 1908. It was shortly followed by another troop at Crewton, Alvaston, but this troop was never officially registered and members joined the 4th Derby (Derwent) troop when it was established by Douglas Foxwell in November 1908. Despite it's designation, the 2nd Chesterfield were the first of the many groups to be established in the Chesterfield District, having been running since November 1908.

In September 1909, scouts from Derbyshire attended the first National Scout Rally at Crystal Palace. A Derby and District committee was established in November 1909 and a committee for Chesterfield and District on 9 April 1910. The Derbyshire Scout Council was formed in May 1911 and the first county review took place at Wingerworth Park on 7 June 1911, with Lord Baden-Powell, Chief Scout, in attendance. The first Derbyshire Scouter's conference was held at Oldham House Hydro in Matlock in October 1925. In 1928, the association acquired 10 acres of land at Drum Hill, Little Eaton. As at 2022, this site remains the headquarters of the county association.

In 1943, the Mayor of Chesterfield, who had been very active with the scout movement, launched an appeal to establish a permanent headquarters for the Chesterfield District. Insufficient funds were raised and a new appeal was launched in 1954. This appeal was ultimately successful and headquarters were established in Marsden Place, Chesterfield. In 2022, the Association sold these premises in order to invest in the camp site at Spitewinter, Matlock Road, Chesterfield, which they already owned.

The District is managed by a number of trustees. </Nationality>
