It was formed early in the nineteenth century, and in 1826 it covered places such as Glossop, Mottram, Marple Bridge, New Mills, Hope, Hathersage and Longstone. By 1918 the circuit comprised societies at Bradwell, Tideswell, Calver, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Castleton, Thornhill, Little Hucklow, Whitehough, Bugsworth, Dove Holes, Cressbrook and Hathersage.

Following the unification of the Methodist Church in 1932, the 'Primitive' was dropped from the name of the circuit (the Bradwell Wesleyan Methodist Circuit already having been merged with the Bakewell Wesleyan Methodist Circuit to form the North Derbyshire Methodist Circuit in 1905).

The circuit existed until 1948, when it merged with the Peak Circuit to become the Peak and Bradwell Methodist Circuit. In 1958 the Bradwell element was dropped so that the circuit became the Peak Methodist Circuit.

Successor: Peak Methodist Circuit (1948-fl 2024), known as the Peak and Bradwell Methodist Circuit 1948-1958

Circuit churches, Jul 1940: Bradwell Bethlehem, Buxworth Tabernacle Station Road, Calver, Chapel-en-le-Frith Market Street, Cressbrook, Dove Holes, Little Hucklow, Thornhill Mount Zion, Tideswell High Street, Whitehough (all formerly Primitive)</Nationality>
