Jerry also had a sister, Frances Alison Garnett (but always known as Nancy) who was also born at Prestwich, Lancashire 31 August 1892.  

By 1901 the family were living in Burbage, Buxton, Derbyshire, by 1908 they were living at Cheetham’s Close, Park Road, Buxton, by 1911 the family was at Cold Springs, Manchester Road, Buxton.  The Garnett family were friends with Vera Brittain, whose family lived at Haighleigh, Manchester Road and Melrose, Park Road, Buxton during this period.

Jerry was educated at Holmleigh School, Buxton, Wisenford and Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey. He volunteered for foreign service at the outbreak of World War One in 1914.  He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 29 August 1914.   He went to the Dardanelles in July 1915 with 18 Battery, Royal Field Artillery. He fell ill with enteric fever (typhoid) and gastroenteritis, and was evacuated by hospital ship to Malta on the 4 November 1915.  He died of gastroenteritis on the 6 November and was buried on the 7 November 1915 at Pieta Military Cemetery, Pieta, Northern Harbour, Malta.</Activity>
