The school became the Sutton-cum-Duckmanton Parochial Endowed School, administered by a charitable trust. On the announcement of the sale of the Sutton estate in 1920, the future of the school was thrown into doubt. Resolution came in 1921, when the trustees agreed to purchase the school land and buildings from a syndicate which had bought the unsold portions of the estate. On 8 October 1928, a new Council School opened at Far Duckmanton, to relieve the overcrowding of Duckmanton Endowed School. The Endowed School closed on 5 January 1936.

The Council School was originally housed in temporary buildings (see D2200/C/71/1). These were destroyed by a bombing raid on 12 December 1940. According to Pamela Kettle's history of the endowed school, classes were "accommodated in the Duckmanton Hotel, the Chapel, and in stables" until the erection of prefabricated buildings. These were destroyed by a fire in 1991.</Nationality>
